Resolved Question: What does this dream mean?
I had this dream probably a month ago but it was more like a nightmare and it's still bothering me a lot. I dreamed that my mom, my brother and I were all rich (even tho were like middle class in real life) and we lived in this like mansion thing and there was a farm and passed that was a large field thing. We all worked on the farm and grew crops and had lots of animals on the farm mostly cows but also like chickens and stuff and we took good care of them. One day my mom told me that we needed to hire workers for the farm because she had another job out in the city and it was hard for us to take care of all the animals. She hired this one worker who came over for dinner on the first day. He looked really like scruffy. He had kind of bad hygiene, scruffy hair and beard, and wore torn clothes. I could even smell whiskey on him in my dream. Anyway, I didn't like him, at all. I knew he was bad news as soon as he sat down at the table. However, my mom acted very polite and welcomed him nicely, but my twelve year old brother seemed to strangely really like this guy. The next day was his first day at work and my brother went to work out by the cows with the new guy. I didn't think much of it until I looked out the window, and I saw my brother holding a riffle. I thought this was strange so I kept watching. Then one of the cows mooed and my brother took the end of the riffle and started beating the cow with the end of the riffle. The cow was like crying for help, but the worker just stood by while my brother beat the heck out of this cow. I watched as he beat at least three cows to their death through the window, but I didn't go outside and consult my brother or anything, just watched in horror. When my mom came home I cried and told her everything he did and so we looked around the house for him and found him in the garage, shooting small animals like puppies and chickens and cats and even goats. My mom told him to knock it off, but did not seem so concerned, while I was just appalled and cried and I even told my brother I hate who he is, and said it with passion. This went on for days, and he didn't seem concerned at all about the animals and just kept hurting them, with my mother doing nothing about it.
My brother is a pretty loving kid in real life. We even get along pretty dang well especially for a couple teenagers. Anyway, I love animals and this dream was so horrible to me, and I can't get it out of my head will someone interpret this for me?
Voting Question: Cow work and farm work - is my dog too old to start?
I've had dogs all my life, but they were all retrievers, (though we did have a little toy poodle once xD). We're a big hunting, fishing, and outdoors family, and I'd like to have a dog that could keep up with the work around the farm. My dog is named Monroe. He's a a full blood Australian Shepherd (tricolor) and I bought him as a pup about four years ago. Great dog. I'd originally bought him to breed and show him in agility, but he a) has major allergies and b) doesn't have papers. He was in a registered litter, but the previous owner never gave us the papers, and we lost contact with her. So now he's my companion.
I'm starting to drive more often, and I want to take him to the barn with me to help me out with the horses and cows. Plus I need a trail riding buddy who can help me on the trails. My friends have dogs that can run a horse down and stop them if they fall off, and I'd like a dog who could at least track a horse. Monroe's in great physical condition. I take the dogs running on the land with my fourwheeler, and they love it. My 10 year old terrier mix runs with us, the neighbor's blue ticks, my cousin's little akita mix, and my dad's dogs all come out and run. My dog's always the one to take out the other one so he's first, then he'll run in front of the fourwheeler ahead of me and race me. Great stamina - I've never met a dog who could run for so long! We've been up mountains, down steep hills, across water and all over the place. I have to stop and turn off the engine to get him to stop and get water or take a break because he won't without me.
Well, he's been around horses before, and he can gather them up pretty good. I'd like to get him to where he can help me with the other animals. Sometimes a cow or a goat gets loose, and I'd like him to track them or even stop them. Is he too old to train him to do this sort of stuff? He's a four-year-old. Do I need to look into buying a new dog for farm work? If I do need to, what breed has a good handle on them for things like guarding or herding?
Thanks in advance.
Okay, I'll see what they have to say. I went over to talk to them about my pleasure horse a couple days ago - very helpful - so I'm sure they can help me out. :)
